What's Up @ Plantation UMC?
Wednesday Word | a Facebook Live Study
Wednesdays, facebook.com/plantationumc, 7:30am
Beginning July 11th, join Pastor Hedy on our Facebook page for a short exploration of the Bible. By popular request, we’re starting out this weekly series by looking at the Book of Ruth! To get Facebook notifications for whenever Plantation UMC goes LIVE, visit our Facebook page (facebook.com/plantationumc) and click on the “Like” button. If you can’t make it right at 7:30am, don’t worry! Videos will be archived on that page, so you can check it out anytime! Just scroll down to find the video you’d like to see. If you have any questions, email Pastor Hedy or at 954-584-7500.
Logos - New Study
Join the LOGOS Fellowship on July 29th as we start a new video-based study – The Daniel Dilemma (How do we stand for God’s truth in a culture of compromise?) by Chris Hodges. We welcome visitors and new members. Call Steve Touzalin for more information, 954-476-9416.
Card Making Class
Thursday, August 2nd, 10:00am - 12:00pm
Join us for a fun morning of craftiness from 10am-12 pm on August 2nd in the Youth chapel. You will “flip” over the first card. You’ll “see right through” the second card. For the kids, we’ll stay with the “bee” theme. Please bring scissors, glue/adhesive and bling if you have. If you don’t, don’t worry, we’ll have some. We just need you to make lots of cards for the church to use. Phone Roberta at 954-254-0733 by Sunday, July 29th.

Now through August 19th
Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Active, Creative, Helpful, Excited, Responsible, Sincere. These are the qualities all of our KAP and preschool teachers possess. As they prepare for the 2018-2019 school year, let’s help them get ready. They need the following items: glue sticks, children’s blunt nose scissors & adult scissors, Playdoh®, water color paint sets, permanent markers, Roll-It Paints (bingo markers), assorted Sharpie® markers, assorted tissue paper, construction paper, rest mats, CD players for classrooms, staplers, Scotch® tape dispensers & tape, laundry soap (dye & color free, ex. Purex®), hand sanitizer, Clorox® wipes, boxes of tissues, size “D” batteries. Donations can be put in the receptacle in the lobby. Thank you for your support!
Blessing of the Backpacks
As children and educators prepare for a new school year, join us on August 19th for the “Blessing of the Backpacks.” All children are invited to bring their backpacks to worship that morning. We will bless their school year, give them a gift, and send them off to be a blessing to others. We will also bless teachers, and all who work with children and youth at Plantation UMC! Join us for this new and special tradition.
Plantation UMC offers summer camps for age groups 3 through 12. The children don’t go off site on field trips. Instead, the field trips come to our campus! Every day is a different activity for the kids… from Rock Walls to Game Rooms, from Hapkido to Water Slides. Payment is flexible. You can pay by the week or by the day, so you don’t have to pay for days you don’t need! Contact us for more details!
- Ages 3 to completed VPK: Contact the Preschool office at 954-792-1710
- Ages 6 through 12: Contact Elba Colon, Camp Director at 954-663-7961 click here for forms
Caring for our family of faith is an important aspect of our community life at Plantation UMC. However, we can only respond to the need or concern if we know it exists! If you, or anyone you know, has need of congregational support, please let us know by calling the church office at 954-584-7500 or sending email to email@example.com. Thank you so much!
Next Habitat for Humanity Work Day | September 15
Habitat for Humanity seeks to put God’s love into action, bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. They offer a “hand up” not a “hand out” to low to very low-income families! The homes are built primarily by volunteers, and we at Plantation UMC have loved being a part of several homes over the years! No construction experience is necessary, as skilled construction staff and skilled volunteer leaders will provide training and supervision. All tools, safety equipment and building materials needed for the day will be provided.
Chapel Bells Seek New Ringers
Our Chapel Bell choir is seeking new ringers! Now under the direction of Plantation UMC member Chris Cary, it’s the perfect time to try bells for the first time! No prior bell experience necessary. Can you count to 4? Do you know what quarter notes, eighth notes, and half notes are? Then you could play bells! If you’re interested, contact Pastor Kathy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pumpkin Patch/Fall Festival
Donations needed: Fall themed books (leaves, pumpkins, etc.) The pumpkin patch is in need of new or gently used fall themed picture books to be read aloud to visiting school children during field trips in October. Fiction or non-fiction books are both welcome. The target ages are 3 to 7. No Halloween or “scary” themes, please. The books will be kept with other pumpkin patch supplies and re-used in the future. Books can be dropped off in the Church office during business hours.
