What's Up @ Plantation UMC?

Saturday, December 16th, 5:00-7:30 PM
The children of Plantation UMC present the annual Children’s Nativity on the front lawn of the church. The children dress as the nativity characters while we hear the Christmas story and sing carols. The evening begins with a petting zoo and pony rides at 5pm, followed by the Nativity, and then hot chocolate, goodies, and Christmas activities in the Fellowship Hall. Bring a blanket or chairs and a flashlight. Parents, if your child would like to have a part in the Nativity, please contact Pastor Kathy.

Thursday, December 21st @ 7pm
Many people in our community are feeling "blue" during this season. Not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with illness that puts a question mark over the future, and a number of other challenges make parties and joviality painful for many people. Join us for this worship service that acknowledges that reality, and looks for healing and hope in the midst of it all.

The Music Ministries are already preparing for the special seasons of Advent and Christmas. If you love Christmas music and are looking for a little extra joy, consider joining one of our choirs for the holiday season!

  • Chancel Choir (Adults) – Wednesday Evenings – 7:30-9:00pm
  • Youth Choir – Wednesday Evenings – 6:00-6:50pm
  • Resonate Children’s Choirs – Sunday Afternoons – 4:00-5:00pm
  • String Project for Children & Youth – Tuesday Evenings – 6:15-7:00pm

If you’re interested, you can reach Pastor Kathy at knolasco@pumc.net or 954-584-7500 ext. 311.

All children — not just church members — who are interested in music, singing, and playing instruments are invited to participate. Children from 3 years old through 6th grade learn the basics of singing and note reading, and learn to play bells and chimes. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons: Resonate! (1st to 6th grade), 4:00-5:00pm in the Sanctuary, and Resonate, Jr. (3 years to Kindergarten), 4:00-4:40pm in the Choir Room.

The Chancel Choir has begun a new season of praising God and making music, and you are invited to join the fun! The Chancel Choir leads worship on Sunday mornings at the 11:00 service, with weekly rehearsals on Wednesday evenings, 7:30-9:00. The choir is open to adults and teenagers. All are welcome – no auditions necessary!  Rehearsals begin on Wednesday, August 23 at 7:30 pm in the Choir Room.

All youth (6th to 12th grade) are invited to participate in a brand-new Youth Choir! The youth will develop their singing voices and learn to sing in 3-part harmony, as they perform in our church, around our community, and maybe even go on tour next year! All youth — guys and girls — are invited and encouraged to participate! Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 6:00-6:50pm in the Choir Room, starting August 30th.

Are you interested in helping others, offering hope, and providing healing? Why not become a Stephen Minister? A Stephen Minister is a trained member of the congregation who provides one-on-one care for another individual who is going through a difficult time.  Plantation UMC will be offering a course beginning in January and running through May to train new Stephen Ministers.  To learn more, you can visit www.stephenministries.org/SM  to learn about others’ experiences as a Stephen Minister. There will be an informational meeting to explore Stephen Ministry on December 10th, after the 11:00 am service in room 503 of Fellowship Hall. Please come. If you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister, please contact Kathy Carter at kathryncarter276@gmail.com or phone 954-533-3837.

The new year brings time for a fresh start.  On Wednesday, January 10, 6:30 pm in room 502 we will begin our discussion of “When Did God Become a Christian” by David Kalas.  All women are invited to join us as we explore the unity of the Old and New Testaments and seek to understand the nature of God.  Contact Carolyn Curry, cabcurry@comcast.net if you have questions or wish to order a book.
